P.S. Instalove News

It's been a bit quiet here, because I can't share my latest sewing project just yet. It's a gift to an avid reader and it's got to be a surprise!! Here is a small upcycling project I did for myself though:

But have I got news for you?!!! I follow Claire (http://claireabellemakes.com/) on Instagram as I love her Cambridge pictures and cycle jewellery and this week she posted buying a ticket for next years Blogtacular event. (http://blogtacular.com/)
Nosy cow that I am I checked it out and in no time I had bought myself a ticket. I have read on other lovely blogs about bloggers meetings and conferences but until now hadn't found the right one.
It will take place in London (yeah!) in June 2015 and I have no idea what to expect.

Well, here's some impressions from this years event (credit: Will Ireland, photographer, made available by Mollie Makes):

So next year it'll be Wonky Heidi queuing up for drinks in London! If any of you fellow bloggers are going I'm very much looking forward to meet up. Please do get in touch.

Instalove

For a long time I didn't get Instagram. iPhone users seemed to share their totally random pictures. But when I read up on blogging everybody unanimously agreed that you had to have Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, the lot. I drew the line at Twitter and I have yet to set up a wonky Facebook account but once I tried it I fell in love with Instagram.
For all of you who don't know Instagram, it's a photo app for your smartphone which allows you to tamper with your photos, gives you filters and borders and a lot of other stuff.

Then you can upload them to your profile and share them with the world. Like Twitter you use hashtags so people can find them. The more hashtags the better. On your wall they show you the posts of the people you follow and  suggest other pictures that might interest you.
I follow crafts people and photographers in NZ and OZ. Now I see a lot of photos of dream beaches, kangaroos and interiour design.
My friend, the Lady K, gets fitness tipps and follows her favourite bands.

I found that it makes me notice my surroundings more in case there is a photo opportunity. I take interesting pictures and am pleased as punch when strangers like them.

Of course, I also wanted to drum up interest for this amazing blog. It's a bit like a mini-blog on the go that appeals to another audience.

What I still don't get is the bikini-mirror-selfies but hey, if I had a thigh gap I'd probably want to show it!

Mad about the book - Bridget Jones 3

I have to confess I was very reluctant to read the latest installment of the Bridget Jones series. I just couldn't imagine Bridget in the 21st century coping with smartphones, twitter and SPOILER ALERT ... without Mark Darcy.

But bargain hunter that I am I couldn't resist a good deal for the e-book and here I am laughing my head of at her latest exploits.
I expected to hate it and am surprised how moved I was by the 51-year old single-mother of two, struggling to get on with her live after her soulmate Mark dies in an accident.

Bridget has grown up - as have I during the last 18 years. The book is funny, poignant and very well-written. Helen Fielding is and stays the queen of chick-lit and this might well be one of my top 5 reads this year!

Sewer's block - not about plumbing!

I have just realized that I haven't done any sewing in weeks. I'm afraid my new job that I started at the end of May kinda killed off my creativity.
I only work 35 hours/week but still by the time I get home I'm only capable of ingesting food and  telly programmes. On good days I make it to the gym but some days, like last Sunday, I can't move from the sofa at all.
Totally normal I reckon, it takes all of my middle-aged brain cells to understand and remember everything (and everyone)  at the new office so that I can't muster any creative energy after-hours. There's so much to learn and get used to....

But hey, there's a holiday coming up next week and I promised myself some quality time with Sissi, my sewing machine. There are birthdays, weddings and babys coming up so I need to get the creative juices flowing again and clear the way to my work station.

 Sissi holding up the hat.

On the upside I can now recommend the following programmes:

Fleming - The man who would be Bond
The Bletchley Circle
Doctor's Diary (German programme)

There are some more book reviews in the pipeline as well, as I can use the tube journey for reading.

Enjoy your summer and stay tuned for more exciting posts!!
